The kitschy Coppertone girl and her dog are a Miami landmark.
Based on a sketch for a logo by the Tally Embry advertising agency in 1953, the 33- foot-high sign -- the girl alone is 27 feet tall --was originally installed on a downtown office building.
But in 2009 she was relocated to Miami's rapidly redeveloping MiMo Biscayne Boulevard Historic District where she lives on as a somewhat hokey, slightly controversial, and undeniably nostalgic, Mid-Century Modern, pop-art icon.
