Art Deco nameplate on Miami Beach apartment building

A one-of-a-kind Tropical Deco nameplate on The Beachway Apartments, designed in 1940 by architect L. Murray Dixon in Miami Beach's historic South Beach neighborhood.

This photograph is from the early 1990s. Since then, this vintage sign was somehow removed and apparently lost, even though the building is in a supposedly protected historic preservation district.

City preservation officials say they lack the manpower to prevent the loss of architectural details like this, even though they contribute mightily to the neighborhood's authenticity and charm.
