Outsider artists Haydee and Sahara Scull

Outsider artists: Cuban-Chinese twins Haydee and Sahara Scull immigrated to Miami in 1969 and created brilliant outsider art there -- brightly colored, paper maché dioramas and paintings, many depicting street scenes in pre-revolutionary Havana and Deco Revival Miami Beach.

Haydee died in 2007, then Sahara the following year.

I photographed them on Ocean Drive during Art Deco Weekend, on January 17, 2004. Photo © Bill Wisser. The Miami Thinks Pink Project
